Scallop Circle Card

I made this card over a month ago when the Parisian Breeze Specialty DSP was still current. I was disappointed that it retired as it has such elegant designs and I like the texture and thickness of it. We do still have To the Nines Specialty paper which has the same texture and thickness as the Parisian Breeze Specialty DSP. However, I think Bella Bleu looks more like the Parisian Breeze Specialty DSP in pattern and some of the colors. I just ordered Bella Bleu and am eager to see it in person :)

I made this card on my own, except for one part where I got stuck for ideas. I put the butterfly on the front but didn’t like how it looked like it was floating on the card. I put a strip of cardstock behind the butterfly but didn’t like how that looked either. So I turned to my favorite blogs for inspiration, and found some on Jan Tink's blog. Her scallop card in this post was just the inspiration I needed to complete my card. I added the Whisper White eyelet border and a thin strip of matching DSP behind the butterfly, and liked how the butterfly was now “anchored”. Funny how sometimes you can’t find the simplest solution but someone else comes up with it in a snap :)

The folded Whisper White circle card measures 3 ¾” from the score line to the bottom of the circle. To create the circle card, I folded a 8.5” x 11” sheet of Whisper White card stock in half, then used the Circle Scissor Plus to cut the circle, making sure that a portion of the folded card stock was above the blade so it would not get cut off. I have a picture of an open circle card in this post.

This card will fit in a Stampin’ Up! medium envelope, but it fits best if you fold the envelope flap slightly higher than the score line.

Sketch Challenge Week #34

Welcome to another Saturday sketch challenge! Take a look at the sketch over on UDI.

This sketch is similar to some cards I recently made with a scallop circle dress. (I will post those soon) But it didn’t have the layer so I thought I’d make another dress card for this challenge. I can always use extra cards, and I already have a recipient in mind :)

So, here’s my card for the challenge:

I saw the idea for this card on Patty's Stamping Spot. She includes the template for the scallop dress in this post.

For the belt, I used a ¼” strip of the same DSP pattern that I used on the bottom of the card. Ribbon works well for a belt too but I wanted something slightly different for this card.

I created a duplicate card but this time I made the dress for a junior. I cut off one scallop on each side of the dress following the original angles. Thanks, Lynette, for the suggestion!

As you can see, it’s just slightly smaller than the dress on the first card. The difference isn’t very noticeable but I like it.

Acetate Box

I have wanted to create a clear box for awhile now, and since we now sell window sheets, I decided to give it a try. I used the acetate box tutorial on Splitcoaststampers.

This box might look familiar to you if you view my posts. I created a scallop circle card for a sketch challenge recently. You can view that post here. I made the box to match one of the cards since both the card and box were gifts for my mother-in-law.

Here I photographed the set together:

The card looks huge compared to the box in this picture but I don’t think there is such a size difference in real life. If I had positioned the box in front of the card, the proportions might look more realistic. At least you can see that the box and card coordinate :)

Sketch Challenge Week #28

I ended up making three cards with this sketch. Two cards for Mother’s Day and one for a friend’s birthday. The two Mother’s Day cards are identical so I’ll show you only one of them.

The birthday card is almost exactly the same except that I changed the color scheme. I like this one more than the color scheme on the card above.

The folded circle card measures 3 ¾” from the score line tot he bottom of the circle. The Raspberry Tart circle measures 3 ½” in diameter.

These cards will fit in a Stampin’ Up! medium envelope, but to avoid bending the top scallops, you’ll want to fold the envelope flap slightly higher than the score line.
